As of February 25, Outriders has a free demo available for all platforms (except Google Stadiums) that allows players to get a taste of what the game will look like when it launches on April 1, 2021.
This page contains a list of details about the demo, tips for players, and links to ongoing sections for the Prologue and Opening Act of the game that appear in the demo.
The Outriders demo is available on February 25 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and GeForce NOW.
- Availability: February 25 until the launch
- Demo Accessibility: The Outriders Demo is available to all players, even those who have not pre-ordered the game.
- Length of the demo: The demo contains the Prologue for the game, as well as part of the opening act of the game, consisting of several main commands and some side commands that can be found during or after the main nude line.
- Restrictions for extramural demo: Players can choose from one of four classes, Devastator, Pyromancer, Technomancer or Trickster. Players will also have up to six character slots, and can level any character up to level 7, which can unlock their classes’ fourth ability and two skill points.

In addition, players will also be able to manually activate cross-platform games (although the feature is still in beta), to play with others on any of the platforms on which the game is available. Any progress with any character will be transferred to the main game when it starts. The crafting system is not available during the demo.
While Outriders shares many similarities with both RPGs and “Looters”, there are several aspects that are worth knowing, whether you have played similar games or not:
- Healing in Outriders is mainly accomplished by aggressively using the abilities of your chosen classes. Each class can get health in different ways, which also matches their playing style. It’s important to understand how your character heals, just to know that it’s just not done to hide behind the cover and take care.
- Difficulty at Outriders is greatly influenced by the World Level. As you ascend and explore, you unlock additional world levels from the level 0 you had at the beginning. Each successive World Level offers better reward chances – but more difficult enemies. If you’re having trouble, look at your current world level or things may be lowering – and if you’m not lucky enough to find good loot, raise the level!
- You can enjoy all the Outriders Demo playing solo, but know that drop-in, drop-out co-op is also available for teams of 3 to tackle more difficult challenges.
- While the game supports crossplay, the feature is currently in beta mode, and you need to manually enable it in the options menu. Once activated, you can request a cross-play game code to share with friends on other platforms so they can join your team by selecting the ‘Join a game using a code’ option and then use the supplied game code.
- Queries are available in the demo – some can be found if you explore outside the paved roads to which the main story takes you to the prologue, while some can only be unlocked after completing certain story events.
- Each class has a fast recharge capability, often with a cooling time of less than 20 seconds. Use it as often as possible as it will come in handy to deal with major damage, control groups of enemies, heal and more!
- Although you can not work in the demo, you can start disassembling equipment to get material. As your progress is transferred to the main game, you can ensure that you have a lot of resources to work with.
