Outdoors launches dwarfs Marvel’s Avengers • Eurogamer.net

But teething problems remain.

Outriders have launched big, though technological problems are hampering their release.

People Can Fly’s loot has hit more than 100,000 simultaneous players on Steam, where it’s currently the top-selling game at £ 49.99.

By comparison, Square Enix’s striking flop Marvel’s The Avengers peaked at 28,145 on Steam when it launched in September. In the last 30 days, it is currently an average of 1000 players.

Square Enix will no doubt be delighted with the success of Outriders in the early days, but it has not simply gone down well. The game had problems with the server this week which sometimes made it difficult to log in – and even started solo players in the middle of the game.

There are also issues with crashes, and People Can Fly has been forced to turn off automatic matching between PC and console due to sync issues. Cross-play will not be reactivated this weekend, Square Enix said.

Efforts are being made to improve server stability, and I managed to play without interruption this morning – even though it does take a while to log in.

I’ve been playing Outriders on and off since it’s launched on April 1st and decided to stick with it after rinsing off the demo.
