Performances of the nominated songs will be broadcast during the pre-show, rather than the main show, and the statuettes of the winners will be engraved during the post-show.
In keeping with tradition, performances of this year’s best original song for Oscar nominees will be broadcast during the Oscars pre-show, not during the main ceremony itself, the producers of the 93rd Oscars announced Friday.
The performances are pre-recorded before the April 25 broadcast. “Fight for you” (Judas and the Black Messiah), “Hear My Voice” (The Chicago 7 Trial), “Io si (Gesien)” (The life ahead) and “Speak now” (A night in Miami) will be shot on the Dolby Family Terrace of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, while ‘Husavik’ (Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga) is from Husavik, Iceland.
The advantage of handling the performances this way: all five nominated songs can be performed in their entirety. They will showcase the talents of non-nominees Molly Sandén; first time nominees Celeste, HER, Leslie Odom, Jr., Laura Pausini and Daniel Pemberton; and nominated 12 times Diane Warren.
“We had some serious actions planned before and after the game to improve our main event,” said Oscar producers. Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh said in a statement. “Our suggestion is just to set up the whole shebang, otherwise you will miss something that is really unexpected and fun.”
The 90-minute Oscars preview, Oscars: in the spotlight, which starts on ABC at 18:30 ET / 15:30 PT, will be presented by actors Ariana DeBose (Hamilton) en Lil Rel Howery (Bad trip) and will highlight the nominees’ trip to Hollywood’s biggest night and give fans a taste of the party. The show will also feature a special look of DJ Tara.
After the broadcast of the Oscars ended, a post-show, Oscars: After Dark, will be broadcast on ABC. Presented by actors Colman Domingo (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) en Andrew Rannells (The Prom), the ceremony’s must-see moments will be summed up, winners will be engraved with their statuettes and interviews will be moderated by film critic Elvis Mitchell.
Both offerings are manufactured by the manufacturer Michael Antinoro and David Chamberlin, with producers Collins, Sher and Soderbergh.
