Orioles to sign Matt Harvey to minor transactions

12:07: Harvey will earn $ 1 million if he makes the Orioles active roster, writes Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun.

10:32: The Orioles have agreed to a right-wing minor league deal Matt Harvey, Reports Jon Heyman of MLB Network (via Twitter).

It was known that Baltimore was looking for veteran heights, and the O’s had already introduced another prominent name Felix Hernandez earlier this month on another minor contract. King Felix will now be accompanied by the Dark Knight in a competition for a spot in the Orioles turn.

The question must be determined whether Harvey is kept as a starting pitcher or perhaps moved to the bull. Since Harvey underwent surgery for breast sac syndrome in 2016, Harvey has a bad ERA of 6.09 over 319 Major League innings with the Mets, Reds, Angels and Royals. After Harvey entered into a minor league deal with Kansas City last year, Harvey delivered an 11.57 era for 11 Royals on 2/3 innings, allowing for six home games in that short time.

Three of Harvey’s seven appearances with KC were a relief, which was his first bullpen job since the Mets removed him from the rotation after struggling early in the 2018 season. If he can not crack Baltimore’s yard staff, it looks likely that Harvey will accept a complete conversion to relief art as a way to keep a big league and get his career back on track.

The seventh overall pick of the 2010 draft, Harvey immediately erupted on the scene in 2012-13 with excellent numbers and finished fourth in the NL Cy Young Award poll in 2013 (his new teammate Hernandez, by the way, finished eighth in the AL Cy Young race the same season). After missing the 2014 season due to an operation in Tommy John, Harvey jumped back with another strong year to help lead the Mets to the NL pennant in 2015. was handed over to the Reds in May 2018.
