Thomas Mahler made the news this week. The game director for Ori and the blind forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps delivered some strong criticism of the “snake oil sellers” via ResetEra on Wednesday, specifically targeting Peter Molyneux, No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk 2077.
As you can imagine, this has led to a rather heated debate. Since Will of the Wisps suffered particularly from the execution issues, he is accused of hypocrisy in various quarters and criticized for a ‘reductive’ point of view.
Since then, however, Mahler has apologized. The release of a statement via Twitter yesterday he slammed back on his previous comments and admitted that he had ‘knocked’:
My intention was certainly not to hurt anyone, but to present a discussion on current issues facing the industry. We all have a common love for this art form and must always remain respectful of each other. And I was not yesterday.
Was Mahler right to apologize? Do you agree with his original points, or did he go wrong this time? Let us know below.
