Statewide toll closer to 2000; 730 new cases were reported on Thursday
PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) – There are seven new COVID-19-related deaths in Oregon, including the 47th resident of Deschutes County, which increases the state’s death toll to 1,998, the Oregon Health Authority reported Thursday.

Vaccinations in Oregon
OHA reported Thursday that 15,173 new doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been added to the state immunization registry. Of this total, 11,519 doses were administered on Wednesday and 3,654 were administered on previous days, but were entered in the vaccine register on Wednesday.
It can take a few days to complete the total daily totals, as suppliers have 72 hours to report doses and technical challenges have caused many suppliers to lag behind in their reporting. OHA provided technical support to vaccination sites to improve the timeliness of their data entry into the state’s ALERT Immunization Information System (IIS).
Oregon has now administered a cumulative total of 486,861 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines. To date, 706,575 doses of vaccine have been delivered to Oregon sites.
These data are provisional and subject to change. OHA’s dashboards contain regularly updated vaccination data, and Oregon’s dashboard was updated Thursday.
The St. Charles Health System reported 22,516 COVID-19 vaccinations as of early Thursday.
COVID-19 hospitalizations
The number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in Oregon is 261, which is five less than Wednesday. There are 58 COVID-19 patients in beds for intensive care (ICU), which is five less than on Wednesday.
The total number of patients in hospital beds may vary between check-in times. The numbers do not reflect admissions per day, nor the duration of the hospital. Staff restrictions are not laid down in this data and may further limit bed capacity.
More information on hospital capacity can be found here.
St. Charles Bend reported 11 COVID-19 patients at 4 a.m. Thursday, two of whom were in the ICU, both on ventilators.
COVID-19 variant detection
OHA now reports the number of people in Oregon with confirmed variant strains of the virus that causes COVID-19 on the COVID-19 Update dashboard in Oregon. New variant cases will be reported Monday through Friday via this dashboard.
New SARS-CoV-2 variants have been documented during this pandemic in the United States and worldwide, and information on the characteristics of these variants is rapidly emerging.
Viruses are constantly changing through mutation, and new variants of a virus are expected to emerge over time. Most variants do not change how the virus behaves and many disappear.
OHA continues to monitor variants that are identified and will provide updates.
