PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) – There are 54 new deaths associated with COVID-19 in Oregon, linking the daily record and increasing the death toll from the state to 1,667, the Oregon Health Authority reported Tuesday.
“The high number of deaths serves as a reminder that the pandemic continues to pose a threat to our friends, neighbors, associates and communities,” the OHA’s news release said late Tuesday afternoon.
The increase in the number of cases that rose in November and December is one of the factors attributed to the high record score of Tuesday.
It can take time to die due to death certificates, as it is determined by doctors and then sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for further investigation before the cause of death is finally determined.
Once this information is confirmed, the information with a final cause of death is returned to states. This backward indicator is now being captured on Tuesday.
The OHA also reported 1,203 new confirmed and suspected cases of COVID-19 as of 12:01 today, bringing the total state to 127,780.
Vaccinations in Oregon
On Tuesday, 10,465 new doses of COVID-19 vaccines were added to the state immunization registry. Of this total, 6,668 vaccine doses were administered on Monday and 3,797 were administered on previous days, but were entered in the vaccine register on Monday.
Oregon has now administered a cumulative total of 115,060 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines. All vaccinations were administered by Oregon hospitals, long-term care agencies, emergency medical services agencies (EMS), emergency care facilities, and local public health authorities (LPHAs).
These data are provisional and subject to change.
St Charles Health System reported giving 4539 Pfizer BioNTech vaccinations.
OHA’s dashboards contain regularly updated vaccination data.
COVID-19 hospitalizations
The number of hospital patients with COVID-19 in Oregon is 403, which is six less than Monday. There are 93 patients with COVID-19 in the intensive care unit (ICU), which is nine more than Monday.
The total number of patients in hospital beds may vary between check-in times. The numbers do not reflect admissions per day, nor the duration of the hospital. Staff restrictions are not captured in this data and may further limit bed capacity.
More information on hospital capacity can be found here.
