Orange, San Bernardino provinces reopen more businesses below red level from Sunday

Orange and San Bernardino provinces have entered the less restrictive red level in the state’s reopening framework, allowing larger crowds in shops and the reopening of museums, movie theaters and indoor eateries in restaurants.

The move on Sunday comes after the state reached its 2 million vaccine threshold administered to people in vulnerable, severely affected communities.

“We were expecting it – at this point it’s almost anti-climax, but it’s a step forward. It gives people the relief they’ve been waiting for,” said Doug Chaffee, Orange County supervisor.

With the red level, many more businesses and organizations can reopen. Retail stores, for example, can now allow half the capacity instead of 25%, and museums, zoos and aquariums can reopen for indoor activities at a capacity of 25%, as well as movies and theaters. Meanwhile, gyms can work indoors with a capacity of 10%.

Wineries, breweries and distilleries can only be reopened for outdoor activities.

San Bernardino County moves in red plane

Catrina Cafe in Seal Beach was just one business that welcomed customers again on Sunday morning.

Craig Lyon, the owner of the business, said so many people needed it to weaken the restrictions.

“It’s just such a bright spot going forward,” said cafe owner Craig Lyon. “This is the beginning, you know. Finally we’re going where we need to go, everything’s looking good. People are getting healthier, they are getting their vaccinations … I think businesses are going to feel better, our customers. Are going to feel better, everyone is feeling better. ‘

Orange County CEO Frank Kim said he was “excited” about the increase to the red level, but he also warned residents to keep their hats off.

“People need to be careful and I think most people in Orange County are smart enough to determine their level of comfort and safety,” he said. “For me, I plan to visit my mother and have a meal with her, which will be great.”

If you move to the red level, the theme parks can be reopened on April 1 – including Disneyland in Anaheim and Universal Studios Hollywood in Los Angeles County – with 15% of the capacity, only with visitors in the state.

Disneyland said earlier this week it plans to welcome visitors back by the end of April.

Los Angeles County also entered the red level on Sunday, although businesses only open on Monday.

Meanwhile, Riverside and Ventura counties are expected to move from the most restrictive press level to the red on Tuesday, with businesses opening their doors on Wednesday.
