Oppo demonstrates its wireless charging technology at MWC Shanghai

The seductive promise of true wireless charging – not just putting your phone on a drawer – feels even more real like companies like Xiaomi, and now Oppo, demonstrate prototypes of their respective approaches to technology. Although as Oppos wireless charging Once you reach your consumers, your phone may still feel as limited as a cable connected to it.

By the company’s Weibo account (A Chinese microblogging site other than Twitter), Oppo shared a video that coincides with the Mobile World Congress, Shanghai, which kicks off today. The video contains the roll-up concept phone Oppo X 2021, first unveiled last November with a flexible OLED screen that rolls to stretch and shrink the size of the screen, it is wirelessly charged on a path that does not require the device to sit directly on the charging coil.

The wireless charging technology currently available to consumers depends on wires located inside the charger as well as inside devices that support it. When placed close together, electricity flowing through the charging coil causes a current in the coil of the device, which causes its battery to charge without physically inserting a cable. But the coils must be placed very close together to prevent this phenomenon, which makes it difficult to use a device while charging. This is why Apple has added the MagSafe feature to its iPhone 12 series, ensuring that a wireless charger stays attached to the devices (and the charging coils stay in line), even when the phones are picked up and used.

It’s convenient, but not as convenient as real wireless charging, which businesses love Ossia argues now at CES for several years. The ideal is a device that starts charging when it comes just near a wireless charger, which has so far been shown to have a range that is as large as the average room in your home. Last month, Xiaomi announced its own wireless charging system called “Mi Air Charge Technology”Which works similarly to Ossia’s Cota wireless technology, although no solutions are yet available for consumers.

Oppo seems to be taking a different approach than either Xiaomi and Ossia. The Oppo X 2021 does not need to make physical contact with the wireless charging block to draw up to 7.5 watts of power (a little more than the tiny cube charger of the iPhone delivers), but the company’s wireless air charger also does not let users walk through a room.

The phone can be picked up and moved around—the drawer does not appear to be dependent on its orientation—but According to the Verge, the distance is limited to about 10 centimeters (about 4 centimeters). The video Oppo shared on Weibo It also seems to indicate that a device needs to be held over the boot all the time. It looks slightly more convenient than the limitations of an induction charger, but not as convenient as Apple’s MagSafe solution. which makes it easier to use a device while charging.

There is no timeline for when Oppo’s wireless charge may be made available to consumers – If ever-depending on what the feedback looks like during the Mobile World Congress, Shanghai. But while this is a step in the right direction, we are more likely to wait for Ossia and Xiaomi to deliver their solutions. which offers more freedom and flexibility.
