OnePlus Watch will officially not use Google’s Wear OS

Over the past few months, back and forth over and over again about whether or not the OnePlus Watch will drive Google’s shaky Wear OS platform. Now CEO Pete Lau has officially confirmed that the OnePlus Watch will have its own operating system.

In a forum post today, Lau dropped a teaser for the OnePlus Watch, confirming what we already knew, that the brand’s first smartwatch will be coming to the OnePlus 9 series on March 23rd. In the report, he explains that a smartwatch was the most requested device from the company’s community, and OnePlus regards the device as ‘more than just instruments that indicate time and heartbeat.’

Although OnePlus started by focusing on flagship smartphones, we also looked at other devices that our users mostly use with their smartphones for an interconnected experience. Of course, we paid attention to smartwatches, because it is in line with our mission to create a carefree experience. We see smartwatches as more than just instruments that indicate time and heartbeat, but powerful devices that can elevate our personal digital experience to new heights. And we can not forget that a smartwatch is the device you are most in demand for, the OnePlus community.

Lau further explains that the OnePlus Watch has a ‘beautiful and carefree design’, as well as connectivity to OnePlus smartphones and TVs. A report earlier today states that the watch can be used as a remote control for the Android TVs. Apparently that would also be all for an ‘affordable’ price point.

However, to power the OnePlus Watch is not Wear OS or even Android. OnePlus would rather use an ‘RTOS’ or ‘real-time operating system’. It’s a lightweight platform that should deliver excellent battery life, but is unlikely to lack third-party programs and watches. Many probably consider this a good thing, but we’ll have to see the final product to really judge.

We have chosen to work with a smart-carry operating system based on RTOS, because we believe it will provide you with a smooth and reliable experience while providing excellent battery life, which contains the biggest concerns we have heard of people wanting to buy a smartwatch. .
