OnePlus confirms that the smartwatch will not use Google’s Wear OS

Uncertainty exists as to whether the upcoming OnePlus Watch Wear OS or something completely different will run. With the portable performance on March 23, OnePlus set the record by saying that the device does not start with Google’s software.

When asked by the community, Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, said that the company wants to address some of the “pain points” for users of smartwatches, and therefore prefers not to use Wear OS. This follows Lau’s comments about OnePlus working closely with Google to improve Wear OS. It seems that the platform has not improved enough for the OnePlus Watch.

‘We chose to go with a smart-carry operating system based on RTOS, because we believe it gives you a smooth and reliable experience while providing excellent battery life, which is the biggest concern we have heard of people wearing a smartwatch, ”Lau said.

Lau further explained OnePlus decided to make a smartwatch to create a ‘load-free experience’ for consumers that enhances the user’s digital life. Lau teased that the OnePlus Watch would feature a design where no detail is too small, and seamless connections between other OnePlus devices, including smartphones and audio peripherals. Lau also promises a ‘best class experience’ at an affordable price.

Lau’s comments follow an earlier leak that revealed important details about the OnePlus Watch. The device is expected to have an IP68 rating, heart rate monitoring, auto-session detection and Warp Charge, with the latter feature apparently offering users within 20 minutes a week’s charge. Users can also use the OnePlus watch to control the OnePlus TV and receive notifications for things like calls and messages.

One thing that remains a mystery is what the OnePlus Watch will look like. A report from last year claims that it will contain a circular and recent design Tweet from OnePlus seems to confirm this.
