The pieces are starting to fall into place for OnePlus’ plans for next month. Although we have long heard that the Chinese company plans to launch the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro in March, we have now indicated that it will be only half of the hardware on display.
The trusted leaker Ishan Igarwal told 91mobiles that OnePlus will launch no less than four pieces of hardware next month. The 9 and 9 Pro devices are accompanied by a budget OnePlus 9R phone and the long-awaited OnePlus Watch.
OnePlus 9R
The OnePlus 9R was formerly known as the OnePlus 9 Lite before evidence of the 9R name was discovered in the html of the OnePlus website. It is rumored to bridge the gap between the OnePlus 9 and the cheaper OnePlus Nord, with a 6.5-inch 90Hz screen powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 and 8GB of RAM. It will reportedly have a 64MP primary camera and a 5,000 mAh battery.
OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro
The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro will feature the prospect with Qualcomm’s latest and best Snapdragon 888 chip, the same chip recently introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S21. Both come with 120Hz screens and while the regular 9 does not look like a big step up from the 8T, it looks like OnePlus is going to work it all out with the 9 Pro, which apparently features an exciting new band with the luxury camera brand Hasselblad.
OnePlus Watch
Finally there is the OnePlus Watch. While OnePlus was very close to releasing a smartwatch in 2015 before it could snap it in at the last minute, this time something is definitely on the way, as confirmed by CEO Pete Lau.
It looks like Lau confirmed at the time that the OnePlus Watch will be running OS. “What we are trying to do is work with Google to improve the connectivity between the Wear OS ecosystem, Android TV and Android smartphones to create this capability for better interoperability between devices in the ecosystems,” he said.
Rumors from the past indicated a round clock, but do not rule out anything more similar to the Oppo Watch, as the brands operate under the same umbrella company. While OnePlus and Oppo insist they have different brands, the pair’s products have had similarities in the past. Just compare the Oppo Find X2 Pro with the OnePlus 8 Pro.
OnePlus 9 Event Prospects
Whatever is revealed, this rumored March event looks like OnePlus’ biggest launch to date with four pieces of hardware to show off. Hopefully we have a date to share soon.
