OnePlus 9 Pro Likes Tips for a Hasselblad Camera Coupling

OnePlus has developed a reputation for phone cameras that are mediocre at best, but that might turn out with the 9 Pro. YouTuber Dave2D got images of what looks like a OnePlus 9 Pro with striking Hasselblad brands on its rear four-camera array. If this is accurate, OnePlus clearly wants buyers to take its camera technology seriously.

It’s not sure just what the camera series can do, though it’s safe to assume you’ll not find a Hasselblad’s medium format sensor inside. The photos show two large sensors (standard and ultra-wide?), Along with two much smaller cameras that can accommodate a macro camera. There is also a laser autofocus above the flash.

The arrangement is superficially similar to alleged leaks for the base OnePlus 9, although the rumored phone lacks the extra camera and laser as well as the Hasselblad brand. It might get an “Ultrashot” label.

The Dave2D leak also seems to confirm claims about the front end, including the curved, 1440p 120Hz screen. This unit has 11 GB of RAM (probably 12 GB in shipping units) and 256 GB of storage.

Whether a Hasselblad partnership can help is not certain. Motorola’s Hasselblad-branded phone mode offered a significant improvement over still photos, but you did not intend to go wrong with a studio-quality camera. Like Huawei’s long-running Leica partnership, it could be more about competition (and attracting attention) than a big leap forward in mobile camera technology.
