OnePlus 9 Pro contains fast 50 W wireless charging

It’s not often that the actual specification is better than the rumor, but this is the case here: the OnePlus 9 Pro supports 50W wireless charging – a little faster than the 45W rumor we reported earlier this year. We were able to test this feature before the official debut of the phone on March 23rd and can confirm: the 9 Pro offers very fast wireless charging.

OnePlus claims that the phone will charge wirelessly (with the new Warp Charge 50 charger) from 1 to 100 percent within 43 minutes, and our own testing has confirmed this to date. This is a big boost for the 30W wireless charging of the OnePlus 8 Pro, which delivered a 50 percent charge within 30 minutes. The improvements are not limited to wireless charging, or the 9 Pro for that matter; the 9 and 9 Pro have 65 W charging chargers that run the battery from empty to full within 29 minutes. Although the base model OnePlus 9 does not get the fast wireless speeds, it can be used with the new charger up to 15W. In addition, both the 9 and 9 Pro support standard Qi wireless charging at 15W.

The new wireless Warp Charge 50 charger now has a detachable cable based on user feedback.

Fast charging has definitely been a thing of the past for OnePlus, and according to Kinder Liu, chief operating officer and head of R&D, it has been a hit with customers. “Since the introduction of our first fast-charging technology with the OnePlus 3, we’ve heard a lot of positive feedback, and many OnePlus users have said that it’s fundamentally changed the way they charge their devices. They can simply replenish a day’s load while they are ready in the morning instead of loading overnight. ”

The OnePlus 9 series uses a two-cell battery design first introduced in the 8T, which is part of the 9 Pro formula to achieve such fast wireless charging speeds: each cell is charged at 25W simultaneously. OnePlus uses higher voltage power, which produces less heat than using higher amplifiers and avoids frying the phone by passing the power through its own charging pump.

The 9 Pro’s dual-battery design also helps soften the heat produced by wireless charging, along with other design tweaks to aid heat loss, such as thicker copper foil and a larger cooling plate. There is also an important feature on the charger itself that we were grateful for in our testing: a fan. The additional fan noise is not ideal when the charger is on your bedside table, but for the Pro 9 owner who wants to maintain their night charging routine, there is support for quieter charging during bedtime.

The newly designed charger also contains two charging coils, which make it possible to charge the phone horizontally or vertically. This is useful if you want to multitask your load time and also watch a video, which according to OnePlus should not affect the loading speed. We could not confirm this in our initial test, but it is something we will follow up on. As for the cost of the charger, we do not yet have prices, but last year’s Warp Charge 30 chargers did not come cheap – the road version was launched at $ 69.95 and the stand version for $ 79.95.
