  • The OnePlus 7 and 7T series phones are finally getting their first Oxygen OS 11 beta series.
  • The updates are expected to start in December, but have been delayed due to a data encryption issue.
  • The latest Oxygen OS 11 open beta is not the most consistent and can cause a number of issues.

After a delay of more than a month, OnePlus is finally expanding the long-awaited Android 11 open beta to the OnePlus 7 and 7T lines.

The update comes in the form of Oxygen OS 11 Open Beta 1 for the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T and 7T Pro. However, the transition to Android 11 for these phones is not without challenges at least for now.

According to the company, the data of the OnePlus 7T devices will be erased if you download it from the links provided on the official forum. You should therefore only download it by the manual method if you are willing to continue with the full swipe of your phones. OTA updates are not affected by this, the company says, but do not forget to back up your data.

There are also some known issues with the open beta for both the OnePlus 7 and 7T series. OnePlus warns that there is a potential risk of increased power consumption and instability. In some circumstances, the gallery app may load more slowly, and some photos may not be displayed. Bluetooth devices such as headphones, speakers and so on can sometimes not play audio. And lastly, adjusting the brightness may slow down in some circumstances.

Do you need to upgrade?

There seem to be a lot of compromises you have to make when downloading this latest Oxygen OS 11 beta download. While this will upgrade your phones with things like a new user interface, custom added HEVC codec, features in dark mode and more, it’s probably wise to hold out for a while and wait for a more stable build.

If you still want to get the current beta builds for your OnePlus 7 and 7T devices, be aware that from now on it will only be available for unlocked, non-portable models. You need at least 30% battery and a minimum of 3 GB of available storage to install the update.
