The Wyze Cam Outdoor is fully weatherproof and can sit on a flat surface or mount almost anywhere.

I made no secret of my love for Wyze security cameras. One of them deserves a place in the Cheapskate Hall of Fame, and others are close contenders. But because it’s so cheap to begin with, transactions are scarce. Even a small discount is noticeable.

This brings us to this: for a limited time, and while stocks last, the Wyze Cam Outdoor Starter Bundle is on sale for $ 52 by Amazon. Regular price: $ 60. (Hey, I said it’s a small discount.)

As it happens, Wyze proper also sells the Starter bundle, but the additional shipping cost brings you back to the $ 60 price tag.

I’ve been using a Wise Cam Outdoor for about eight months, and I have to say it was an absolute champion. The bundle consists of the camera itself and a small wireless base station; the latter can pair with up to four cameras. Originally you had to connect the drive to your router, but a recent firmware update makes it work wirelessly. Now it’s just a socket.

As for the camera, it is quick to mount and set up. Like other Wyze Cams I’ve tried, it streams sharp 1080p videos to my phone and tablet and offers two weeks of cloud storage at no extra cost. (You can also use an inexpensive microSD card for virtually unlimited local recording.)

The battery life is excellent – I’ll probably go four or five months before I have to recharge – and the camera had no trouble withstanding the summer heat and winter cold on Michigan.

One thing to note: although motion detection is one of the many features, if you will person detection (which can definitely help reduce unwanted motion alerts), you should subscribe to Cam Plus. It currently costs $ 1.25 per month per camera if billed annually. It’s worth it if you ask me, especially considering all the other features you also get: package tracking, vehicle tracking, unlimited recording length, and so on.

Why not the Wyze Cam v3 instead? It is also weather resistant and currently sells for only $ 30. But it requires power, which can be difficult depending on where you plan it. What’s more, the Wyze Cam Outdoor includes a travel mode that lets you record videos on the go, even when you’re not off Wi-Fi.

In short: whether you buy it for $ 52 or $ 60, it’s an excellent product. Definitely Cheapskate-recommended.
