One dead during shooting on New Year’s Eve in Kanawha District

KRUIS LANES, W.Va. A Putnam County teenager was shot dead in the early hours of New Year’s Day during a fight in the parking lot of a Kanawha County convenience store.

According to the sheriff’s department in Kanawha County, Caleb Marcum, 19, of Red House, died in the Sheetz car park in Cross Lanes. The shooting took place around 2am on Friday. Marcum was shot in the face.

A second man from Putnam County, Brent Jenkins, 23, of Scott Depot, was also shot and taken to hospital.

Two charges of intentional threatening with a firearm have been filed against David Tylar Rogers (23) of Charleston. According to a news release from the sheriff’s department, Rogers is accused of firing a gun several times in the parking lot, endangering the lives of bystanders while in an altercation with others. “

No specific charges have yet been filed in connection with Marcum’s death. The sheriff’s department is continuing its investigation.
