The Browns defensive line will miss an important piece if they go to Pittsburgh for the playoff game next Sunday night.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced Monday that defensive end Olivier Vernon broke his Achilles during Sunday’s 24-22 victory over the Steelers. Vernon was sent to the locker room early in the fourth quarter.

Vernon had Sunday’s win two tackles for loss and a bag. He had 36 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery over all 14 games he played this season.

The injury will prevent Vernon from playing, and it will also affect his off-season. Vernon is available for free agency and the timing of the Achilles fracture will create a question about when he will be able to get back on the field.
