The state health department said their vaccination program would be available Thursday to sign up for a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as your group qualifies.
“Originally, we intended to use an app provided by the CDC,” said Keith Reed, deputy health commissioner. “When they actually got to the point of rolling it out, it didn’t quite meet our needs.”
Since the CDC app does not suit the state leaders, they started working with Microsoft to create a new app. The state said the CDC app would require the entire state to use the app, while also causing many vendors to learn a new system.
“If you have a short time frame to put it together, you sometimes have delays,” Reed said. “We are not going to wait for technology to give us the green light to move forward.”
With many Oklahomans living without internet services, the state has said they are bridging the gap.
“One of the things I think we’re looking at is, for example, limiting the number of appointments through the app. Then set aside a certain number of appointments that can be accessed by other needs to try to help those who do not have access to the application of technology, ”Reed said.
The app will verify Oklahoma accommodation and allow you to book a reservation across the country.
“We are not limiting anyone to having a resident in a particular country to get vaccinated. A lot of people travel to work, and there are a number of circumstances,” Reed said.
The state said the only way to get a vaccine is to schedule an appointment.
