Okanagan employee dies at ski resort after crashing under snow accelerator

RCMP, the BC Coroners Service and WorkSafeBC are investigating the death of an employee at Mount Baldy Resort near Oliver, BC, after he got stuck under a snowman on Friday afternoon.

RCMP said the 70-year-old man sustained serious injuries and died despite the efforts of other employees and paramedics on the mountain.

According to police, the BC Coroners Service and WorkSafeBC launched independent investigations into the man’s death.

On Saturday morning, the resort posted a message on Facebook saying that the resort was closed for the day because ‘valued family member of Baldy’ died in a ‘terrible accident’.

“We are all devastated. The intense emotions we feel do not go beyond us,” the report said.

“We can not understand the overwhelming pain and sadness that the family is currently going through. We know there are no words to comfort them.”

According to the resort, the staff is cooperating with local authorities who are investigating.

A spokesman said the resort currently wants to respect the family’s privacy.
