TOLEDO, Ohio – The alcohol-related death of the fog last month from a Bowling Green State University student is an accident.
The office of the coroner’s in Lucas County announced Tuesday that Stone Foltz, 20, died of alcohol poisoning after the fog.
Authorities said members of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity gave alcohol promises on March 4 and encouraged everyone to finish a whole bottle. They included Foltz, who died three days later.
According to a lawyer for Foltz’s parents, Foltz, a sophomore who majored, was found unconscious by a roommate after members of the fraternity dropped him off at his apartment. He was granted life support and died after his family arranged for his organs to be donated.
The university has accused the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity of violating six rules of conduct, including harming others, exposing and disrupting order or disregarding health and safety with alcohol. This also put the chapter under suspension.
Alex Solis, the university’s spokesman, told The Toledo Blade that during a meeting with school administrators on Tuesday, Pi Kappa Alpha representatives ‘refused to proceed with a trial’ related to the charges. will be released later this week.
The university has asked former U.S. attorney David DeVillers to help with the investigation.
Foltz’s death inspired a renewed impact on increased fines for exposure in Ohio. Two Republican senators said in March that they would re-introduce a proposal to make alcohol and drug-related abuse a crime if it seriously harmed anyone.
