Ohio reports just 735 new cases of coronavirus: Sunday update

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health reported Sunday that the number of confirmed or probable infections from the new coronavirus has risen to 978,471, up 735 from Saturday.

The state has not reported any new deaths in the past 24 hours. According to the COVID-19 dashboard of the state, the total number of deaths is no longer available daily. It will be updated twice a week.

The state reported 1,506 new cases on Saturday.

In the last 24 hours, COVID-19 hospitalizations across the country have increased by 33, which is much lower than the 21-day average of 111 daily hospitalizations. Two COVID-19 patients were transferred to the ICU in the past 24 hours, also much lower than the current 21-day average of 13 days.

Sunday’s case is less than half the 21-day moving average, which currently stands at 1,863.

Ohio reported that another 58,227 COVID-19 vaccinations have begun, meaning that at least one dose has been given as of Saturday afternoon. A total of 1,929,773 vaccines were started in the state, representing 16.51% of Ohio’s population. A total of 1,075,272 vaccinations were completed (9.2% of the Ohio population).

According to Johns Hopkins, there are more than 116 million cases of coronavirus and nearly 2.6 million deaths worldwide. In the US, there are nearly 29 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and nearly 525,000 COVID-19 deaths.
