I’m not going to argue the benefits of this deal again, say goodbye to Yu Darvish and Victor Caratini, or discuss the consequences of the market for trading another bait in San Diego. We’ve done it all today (and we’ll probably have more in the coming days and weeks to come). Instead, I just want you to know that the deal is official (all the players exactly as already known), which has now been reported by the Cubs themselves.
And the only “surprise” is that the Cubs are also raising some cash to cover Darvish’s remaining $ 62 million over the next three years (finishing second in the Cy Young race increased his contract, though I saw has that people still report that he owes only $ 59 million):

How much does the Cubs kick in?
According to Jordan Bastian, $ 3 million of the remaining $ 62 million.
Cubs will pay $ 3 million of the remaining $ 62 million for Darvish’s deal. All year round. That equates to the salary increase he received for second place in Cy Young voting. Salary increase of $ 1 million per year during 2021-23.

(Kevin Acee previously reported $ 5 million, but I saw $ 3 million more often * and * Acee also thought Darvish owed only $ 59 million, so I think he got some of his numbers wrong).
I promised anyway not to go into it tonight, because whatever at this point. But yes, the Cubs not only included Caratini * and * paid Davies’ about $ 8 million for 2021, but they also kicked in another $ 3 million to compensate Darvish. Good night.

At least they can extend Javy Baez now, right? RIGHT?
The cubs will probably try to extend Javy Báez, so at least there are? – https://t.co/gzSU4iNhvF pic.twitter.com/HTVomogSEt
