Officer shoots suspect during hijacking attempt

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) – Kentucky police are investigating after a Georgetown officer shot a suspect during a car hijacking attempt on Friday.

Police said they received a call Friday morning about a man trying to break into cars in a mall parking lot near Connector Road in Georgetown.

The suspect was sitting in his truck when officers arrived and tried to run as they approached.

The suspect made two attempts to steal a vehicle while fleeing. Police said the man was shot when he swung a gun after the second attempt at hood.

The suspect was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital and is in an unknown condition.

Connector Road is being shut down and a portion of the McDonald’s car park is being plastered. There is a silver sedan that is ‘of interest’.
