Oculus Quest 2 buyers and owners are looking for a surprise because Oculus has announced that this VR headset will get support for multiple user accounts and device-specific app sharing from next month.
This means that multiple users are able to sign in to a single headset, with the option to share the same library with apps. So no longer buy multiple headers and duplicate programs so everyone can have things their way.
This upgrade starts with Quest 2 owners as an experimental feature before being later introduced to the original Oculus Quest headset. It has not been announced exactly what date the changes will take place, although app developers have until February 12 to withdraw part of the app.
As of February 13, app sharing will be enabled automatically, indicating that the feature will launch to users around this time.
How Oculus Quest 2 app part works
Primary Oculus Quest 2 account holders can add up to three secondary accounts to their headset, all of which are eligible for shared applications from that single headset. Obviously, Oculus would like you to buy more than one, so that the feature will be expanded in the future and allow a primary account holder to share their apps on three different Quest devices.
That’s the plan anyway, as the announcement post said the number of secondary devices and bills could change as they get customer feedback. These numbers can therefore rise or fall. It is also not clear whether Oculus will prevent people from sharing programs if they do not live together.
Unfortunately, this system has certain reservations. Secondary account holders who purchase their own apps cannot share it with other users. For some reason, this is a right reserved only for the primary account holder. However, shared applications can run on more than one device at a time, provided you do not try to use the primary account on both headers.
All of these accounts will need to be linked to your Facebook account as it is now mandatory for all Oculus users.
This is good news for Oculus Quest owners anyway. The announcement states that it is intended to help the VR community grow, promote programs and prevent piracy.
Whatever you think about it, the fact that people will be able to have their own account space without necessarily having to spend $ 299 on their own headset is definitely a good thing. Especially if it also means you do not have to buy the same app or game.
