Syracuse, NY – The New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse is one of several Covid-19 vaccination sites opening in New York this week.

The site at the fair, plus others at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City and the Westchester County Convention Center in White Plains, is open Wednesday.

According to a tweet from Melissa DeRosa, an assistant to government Andrew Cuomo, a website will be opened at the Utica Memorial Auditorium next week.

Other sites opening this week include Jones Beach in Nassau County on Thursday and a location at State University of New York Albany on Friday.

More sites opening next week include SUNY Stony Brook on Long Island, SUNY Binghamton property in Johnson City, the Dome Arena near Rochester, Plattsburgh Airport, SUNY Potsdam, University of Buffalo South Campus and the Aqueduct Race Track Queens.

The state plans to plan up to 20 mass distribution sites as admission to the Covid-19 vaccine expands.

As of today, millions of people can get the shots, including police officers, firefighters, teachers and other education workers and people aged 75 and older. Healthcare workers and nursing home residents have been eligible for weeks.

As shots could spread to a total of about 5 million people, thousands of pharmacies, doctors’ offices and local health departments will soon start delivering vaccines. Onondaga County has vaccinated people at the Syracuse War Memorial since December.

This morning, a new state website was made available that enables New Yorkers to search for vaccinations. Appointments are required.

Governor Andrew Cuomo warned that shots were likely to be hard to get until the federal government could increase supply. He said last week that New Yorkers can wait weeks or months for a vaccine if it is no longer produced and shipped to New York.
