What is unclear is how much snow the storm system could unpack and where the worst conditions will be, but the NWS advises Minnesotans who have travel plans on Thursday or Friday to keep an eye on the forecast due to the possibility of dangerous weather.
“Wednesday night to Friday has become more and more interesting because it seems likely that we will accumulate precipitation. There are still several questions in the forecast regarding precipitation time, type and quantity,” the Twin Cities Office the NWS.

“This situation will be closely monitored, as freezing rain is very dangerous and will occur during the morning commute,” reads the forecast discussion.
You can see that the scenario takes place in the latest simulation of the European computer model. In the GIF below, different shades of purple indicate a mixture or freezing precipitation, while the blue indicates all snow.
It is also worth noting that the European model is just one of many used by the NWS to make its prediction, and that other models, including the US and NAM models, are not aggressive, as the European model brings most of the storm and precipitation. in the heart of Minnesota.
If the storm has an impact as the European model suggests, it could be a powerful winter storm.
“I am concerned that the blizzard could develop in western Minnesota if this storm system increases from Thursday to Friday as expected,” Novak Weather said. “I would not be surprised if the snow falls over much of the Upper Midwest, including the Twin Cities.”
Again, the amount of snow associated with this storm system remains unclear, but the NWS Duluth office believes the highest amounts may be in northern Minnesota.
“The heaviest snow is expected Thursday night and early Friday, with the highest snowfall in northern Minnesota. Snow will end later Friday through Friday night from west to east, with snow from Lake Effect in Saturday,” the Duluth NWS said. Said Tuesday. morning.
