LaHood said in a telephone interview with Politico that it is more important to gain control of the House in 2022 than to punish Republican lawmakers by depriving their campaigns of cash.

Kinzinger, LaHood’s fellow Illinoian, acknowledged that his vote may have ended his political career, but has so far stood by his decision and launched a PAC to challenge the GOP’s embrace of ‘Trumpism’.
Asked if the ten GOP lawmakers who decided to prosecute would still receive money for their campaigns, LaHood replied, “Absolutely.”
“If we’re going to be the majority party – which I think we’ll do – you have to accept that we’re a big tent,” LaHood said. “I tried to embrace the philosophy and the attitude of it is how we will become the majority party.”
“I’m looking at our first-year class that just came in, and that diversity is what we need to build,” LaHood added.
Republicans in several states have seized congressional seats, weakening the Democrats’ grip on the U.S. House. Democrats also did not take back the Senate by a large margin in 2020, although they did gain the majority after the former Georgia Sens. David Perdue

LaHood continues: ‘The fact that we have not lost a single incumbent [in 2020] is pretty incredible, and then to pick up all the seats we did, so our job at the NRCC is to protect our incumbents, and the money we help raise will go for that. ‘
In a statement to The Hill, NRCC spokesman Michael McAdams said: “The NRCC’s position has not changed. We support our members during general elections and do not get involved in the by – elections. We look forward to continuing build on the successes of the last cycle and regain the majority. ”
