According to next-generation statistics, one of Matthew Stafford’s passes made the top 10 longest throws per airspace of the 2020 season.
It’s certainly one of the best things to see the number 9 play, when he absolutely kicks it off the field for a big win. This week, NFL.com highlights the top 10 connections by air this season and a Stafford pass topped the list.
According to a glossary from Next Gen Stats: “Air distance is the amount of meters the ball has traveled on a pass from the point of release to the point of reception (as the crow flies). Unlike Air Yards, Air measures Distance the actual distance that the passer throws the ball. ”
The Stafford throw that made the list came in eighth place. During Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts, Stafford throws the ball deep to Marvin Hall and counts 61.8 yards per air distance. Watch it:
