NoSavesies: Saving parking spaces begins when Philadelphia digs out of winter storm

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – While Philadelphia is still digging out of Monday’s winter storm, keeping your kicked out parking lot can be the biggest challenge.

Folding chairs and orange construction cones are just a few items that residents use to claim their space.

‘Savings’ is an unspoken rule in most neighborhoods, although you can not store a parking space in the city – this is the law.

George Harvey says he has no problem moving the cone.

“Oh yeah, I’ll move them. I do not think that’s right. Everyone is digging out,” Harvey said.

In South Philadelphia, it’s no secret that parking is fine.

“The parking lot is usually difficult. With snow it makes it harder,” said one resident.

In inclement weather, residents often use their old school manners.

“I’ve used a cone before.”

The city reminds residents that parking savings are prohibited. Those who dig out their vehicles are asked not to dump the snow in the street.
