A primary school principal in Hilton, New York, has been arrested for allegedly abusing nine boys, reports NBC News. Kirk Ashton, 51, allegedly abused several boys under the age of 12 during the school day. Ashton is facing several charges, including first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, the district attorney said. He pleaded not guilty and remains in custody from Saturday. Ashton is accused of sex abuse for the first time in 2017, but investigators are investigating his 17-year tenure at the school to see if any other incidents are overlooked.
“Generally, individuals who are predators prey on children,” said Barry Chase, a New York City police lieutenant. “Unfortunately, they sometimes get into positions that are powerful, and, you know, they take advantage of the weak and the young. It does happen, and it is very unfortunate that these people get into certain kinds of positions. ”
