North Korea will apparently not participate in the Olympic Games in Tokyo

The country has said it will skip the Summer Olympics to “protect players from the global public health crisis caused by Covid-19”, according to a report in the North Korean media DPRK sports on Tuesday, a website on sports affairs, has been published.

The decision was made by the DPRK Olympic Committee, which held a video conference meeting with committee members and sports officials in the capital Pyongyang on March 25, reports DPRK Sports.

The Games are currently scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8. The Paralympic Games follow, from 24 August to 5 September.
Organizers had to postpone in March 2020 for the first time in the history of the Olympic Games due to the coronvairus pandemic.
Last month, the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee said that international spectators would be denied access to Japan due to the presence of the coronavirus in the country and abroad.
