North Dakota sees no new deaths due to COVID-19 for 2nd day

BISMARCK, ND (AP) – North Dakota health officials said Sunday that the state’s COVID-19 update did not result in any deaths for a second consecutive day, and showed another decline in hospitalizations.

The number of people to be cared for in medical facilities has decreased by 13 to 72 in the past two days. Ten patients are currently being treated in intensive care units. According to the state’s hospital locator, there are 34 manned ICU beds and 371 person in-bed beds available in North Dakota.

The death toll from complications from the Koran virus stands at 1,352. Data compiled by researchers at Johns Hopkins University on Saturday puts North Dakota in sixth place per capita in the country, with about 178 deaths per 100,000 people. .

Health officials said 93 of the 3,352 virus tests processed on the last day returned positive, or 3.16% of them. A total of 94,716 cases have been confirmed since the onset of the pandemic.

North Dakota’s nationwide mandate runs until Jan. 18.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up within two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with pre-existing health problems, it can cause serious illnesses, including pneumonia and death.
