“Nomadland”‘s production sound mixer Michael Wolf Snyder died at the age of 35 by suicide, as his father confirmed in a message on social media shared by his aunt. Snyder was previously a production sound mixer and a trainer in Chloé Zhao, director of the Nomadland director, from 2017, ‘The Rider’. Snyder began his career as a tree operator in the 2011 thriller ‘Occupant’.
His father, David Snyder, said he discovered Snyder’s body in his Queens apartment on March 1. “Michael took his own life at some point in the last week, and it was only discovered when I went to examine him on Monday after he lost contact for several days,” David Snyder wrote in the Facebook post (by deadline ). “He suffered from severe depression for many years. For most people, it is a disease that disappears over the years. I’m sure it was difficult for Michael to spend most of the last year alone in his small Queens apartment and was responsible for dealing with the coronavirus. ”
‘Nomadland’ director Chloé Zhao, in a statement published on Variety, said: ‘About’ The Rider ‘and’ Nomadland ‘, I always looked at Wolf every time. I did not wear headphones on the set and therefore I strongly believed that Wolf would be my ears. The star of the film, Frances McDormand, said: “Wolf has taken our hearts. We every breath. To me he is ‘Nomadland’. ”
David Snyder said in the original post: ‘We all believed he was doing well, and I think that’s been the case for most of the past year. He has seemed especially happy and strengthened over the past few months since he was able to work on various film projects again. He was definitely delighted with all the honors for ‘Nomadland’ and told us many happy stories about his work on the film and the wonderful people with whom he was able to spend time. ‘
