Chloé Zhao’s “Nomadland” led the National Society of Film Critics Awards and won the award in four categories. The film won best picture and best cinematography, while Zhao was awarded as best director and star Frances McDormand as best actress.
The 55th annual voting meeting took place on Saturday, with results shared to the organization’s Twitter account while voting on each category. A weighted voting system requires voters to choose their first, second and third choices for each category, with each position earning the film a different mark. Category winners are those who received the most cumulative marks.
Delroy Lindo won the title of best actor for his role in Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods”. Lindo’s rendition of a military veteran received praise throughout the year.
Maria Bakalova, who gained notoriety after her performance in ‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm’, won the award for Best Supporting Actor after this year’s vote, while Paul Raci, ‘Sound of Metal’ star, was named Best Supporting Actor.
And although ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ could not reach one of the categories for acting, it did find a victory in the best category best actress, best actor and best supporting actor. Boseman, who was the runner-up for Best Actor for his performance in the Viola Davis-directed film, also won Best Supporting Actor for ‘Da 5 Bloods’. He came third in the category.
