Nokia 1.4 Delivers Big Screen Android at a Shocking Price

If your primary complaint about new Android phones is that it’s still too expensive, Nokia 1.4 wants a word. The latest from HMD Global, the new entry-level smartphone, increases the screen size in the Nokia range, but also keeps the price low: actually less than 100 euros.

Indeed, the Nokia 1.4 is only € 99 ($ 115), which is surprisingly low for a brand new smartphone. Despite the price, you also get a substantial screen: a 6.51-inch HD + panel, which according to HMD Global is the largest ever offered in a Nokia 1 series.

It runs Android 10 Go edition, although apparently ready for Android 11 Go edition, on Qualcomm’s 215 chipset. The memory depends on the market, but it varies from 1 GB to 3 GB, and there is 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB internal storage. A microSD slot can handle up to 128 GB of cards.

At the back there are two cameras: the primary package contains an 8-megapixel sensor with autofocus, while the secondary is a 2-megapixel sensor for macros. There is both the portrait mode and the night mode for photos. A 5-megapixel camera in the tear plane on the front handles selfies.

Even with the price, HMD Global still found room for a fingerprint sensor. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack and an FM radio, but it’s surprising that you don’t get the latest connection like 5G or WiFi. Instead, the Nokia 1.4 is the best at LTE Cat 4 – far from potential LTE speeds on other recent (and much more expensive) phones – and WiFi b / g / n, along with Bluetooth 4.2.

However, relatively frugal specifications make optimal use of the Nokia 1.4 mAh battery 1.4. It can take several days at a charge – charged via microUSB, not USB-C – the company says. There will be single-SIM and dual-SIM variants, both of which have a dedicated Google Assistant button (which acts as a Google keyboard shortcut in areas where the Assistant is not yet available).

Sales of the Nokia 1.4 start today, February 3, according to HMD Global at 99 euros. It is offered in three colors: Fjord, Charcoal and Dusk. There is still no word on the specific market availability, although the product page does indicate that there will be an American version.
