No, Microsoft does not make ZeniMax part of ‘Vault’

Microsoft announced their intention to buy Bethesda parent company ZeniMax last September. Currently, they are still getting permission to take ZeniMax’s hand in corporate marriages from all the necessary legal and legislative bodies and all. As part of the process, Microsoft apparently plans to create a new company called “Vault” with which ZeniMax will be merged. But unlike the initial reports (ours included), the cute name is only temporary.

The name appears in a notice to the European Commission, whose permission Microsoft has requested to proceed with their planned $ 7.5 billion acquisition of ZeniMax and its subsidiaries, including Bethesda Game Studios, iD Software, Arkane, and others .

“The concentration will be achieved through a merger that will merge a newly established Microsoft subsidiary (‘Vault’) with and into ZeniMax,” reads the relevant part of the notice.

In the midst of today’s hubbub, the people of UESP pointed out that another January submission makes clear that the name will not remain. “After this merger, Vault will cease to exist and ZeniMax will survive as a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft,” he says. Vault will thus be vaulted, lost like so many vault dwellers trapped in strange experiments.

Shortly after their original purchase announcement, Microsoft confirmed that they plan to honor the planned PS5-time exclusivity for Deathloop and GhostWire: Tokyo. The’ve also said they want to buy more studios, making them another giant venture that gathers game studios and further consolidates the gaming industry.
