Start this week in Fortnite, you can have the Predator do a victory dance of Pelé while using TheGrefg’s game block. On Thursday, a Faze Clan streamer played Fortnite with a Manchester City star while wearing Manchester City skins. The battle royal hit has long been known as a cross-promotional juggernaut, but developer Epic Games has recently taken things to a whole new level.
Just this season, which started on December 2, Epic added:
Crossovers like this are by no means a new thing for Fortnite. The last season of the game was a Marimon mashup with more than one month. There have been several Star Warsthemed cosmetics, other real streamers added to the game include Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and Kathleen “Loserfruit” Belsten, and there were even concerts (and accompanying cosmetics in the game) featuring great artists like Travis Scott and Marshmello.
To me, crossovers are part of the ongoing appeal of Fortnite – where else can I play Kratos and face Iron Man? – and each new addition helps Epic build the ultimate virtual world. But the crossovers also offer Epic the opportunity to bring in more cash, which could help offset the game’s absence on iOS. The Battle Royale hit is free to play, so each brand new look is a chance for Epic to get people paying for in-store items or selling one of its seasonal battle passes.
Do not expect the crossovers to stop anytime soon. The Predator has just joined Fortnite, but Epic is already tease the arrival by Sarah Connor by The Terminator franchise. This probably means that there is a Terminator also a cyborg skin – and if it’s there, it means you’ll be able to beat the Terminator against the Predator in a battle for ages. Just hope Mando doesn’t get in the way.
