No appointment required at the federal vaccine in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. As of Wednesday, the coronavirus vaccine in Jacksonville should be much easier and hassle-free when the new federal website opens at the Gateway Mall at 7 p.m.

According to organizers, if you meet the latest age requirements, you do not need an appointment to get the chance, although pre-registration is encouraged by visiting myvaccine.fl.gov or calling 866-200-3762.

The yard had a dry run on Tuesday and organizers said there may be no delays or problems.

The two large tents on the premises will handle 2,000 people a day to shoot the Pfizer vaccine. An additional 1,000 people could get the shot on two satellite sites.

People are encouraged to register online for the surveys, but it is not necessary. You can get the chance if you meet the requirements of the governor, including 65 and older, health workers, K-12 school staff who are 50 years and older, as well as law enforcement and firefighters 50 years or older.

Robert Spence of FEMA said the site has the potential to expand or shrink based on the amount of vaccines available.

“Now there is pre-registration, but regardless of the numbers, we can still expand. “We believe we have enough insight that we do not believe we will be overwhelmed,” Spence said.

Although it is a federal website, you must be a Florida resident at this time.

The website provides the first or second survey of the Pfizer vaccine. Although you may have shot the Pfizer somewhere else, you can only bring your vaccination records with you.

“The process believes we have 30 to 40 minutes to get the person out the door, but that again depends on the amount of people who are here,” Spence said.

The two satellite sites will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the main hub at the Gateway Mall will operate seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The site is expected to be active for at least 60 days and will be hosted along with the state vaccinations at Regency Square Mall.
