The state has moved from Phase 1A, which includes health care workers and those in assistance facilities, to Phase 1B. However, everyone in phase 1A can still receive a vaccine if they have not yet received one.
However, not everyone is eligible to receive Phase 1B to receive the vaccine due to supply and demand.
As of Friday, the state prioritizes new Mexicans who are 75 years and older and people with underlying health conditions who are 16 years and older.
Frontline essential workers, including teachers, are in Phase 1B, but they will have to wait until more vaccine is available to schedule an appointment.
There is still a lot of frustration about the New Mexico Department of Health forcing school districts to cancel vaccinations specifically for school staff.
However, many of the people can still be vaccinated if they fall into another category, such as 75 years or older or have an underlying health condition.
