NL West Injury Notes: Dodgers, Rockies, Giants

Brusdar GraterolPlacing on the 60 day injured list was a procedure or wrong, depending on who you ask, but the Dodgersright hand plans to return to the field in less than 60 days. His delayed debut this season is ‘related to COVID from the past’, according to Jorge Castillo of the LA Times. This is a peculiar situation around the flaming Venezuelan. He was not hurt, just behind. He only started throwing in late spring with this spring and he is still working in a game form. Let’s take a turn to see how other arms are progressing in the west …

  • Kyle Freeland is working back from a shoulder injury suffered towards the end of spring training, and there is no timetable for his return. That said, he seems to be making progress, by Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. The details remain scarce, but the suspicion appears to be that Freeland’s injury will not threaten his season. The Rockies may start the season with a four-man turn, but they will soon have to add another arm to the mix German Marquez, Antonio Senzatela, Jon Gray, en Austin Gomber. The newly signed Joulys Chacin could be a candidate for bulk innings. Keep an eye out Antonio Santos in the long run. The 24-year-old judge made his debut last season after starting just eight times in Double-A. He may not be the first name mentioned this season, but he will likely find his way to the Majors sometime in 2021.
  • The Giants has released a number of updates on injuries, according to Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com (via Twitter). Jaylin Davis will be out four to six weeks as he rehab tendinitis to the left knee. John Brebbia and Tyler Beede both throw bullpens twice a week as they prepare to return from Tommy John surgery. Dedniel Nunez this past tuesday he underwent his own Tommy John surgery and he will begin his rehabilitation process this week. Finally, Alex Wood throws a sim game while trying to return from a lower back voltage. Wood is expected to play a big role in the Giants rotation picture this season, and they still hope that is the case.
