NJ weather: New winter storm could bring 3 to 6 inches of snow in parts of the country

Our active weather pattern continues with more and more winter storms, with a new one affecting New Jersey over the next three days and possibly a second one looming this coming weekend, forecasters said Tuesday afternoon.

The next winter storm is likely to arrive in two waves – the first from Wednesday night to Thursday morning and the second from Thursday night to Friday morning, said Dean Iovino, a meteorologist at the local weather forecast office in New Jersey.

A good trend if you are sick of all this snow: ‘Most of it will be a little further south’ than originally projected, Iovino said.

As a result, the storm system is likely to hit places like Maryland and southern Delaware with heavy snow and bring lighter snow accumulations to New Jersey, Iovino said.

In the first hurricane of Wednesday night and early Thursday, the National Weather Service expects 2 to 3 inches of snow in South Jersey, 1 to 3 inches of snow in Central Jersey and less than one inch in North Jersey.

There is some mixed precipitation and icing in southern New Jersey, mostly near the coast, Iovino said.

In the second wave of the storm, especially Thursday night to early Friday, the weather service expects another 1 to 2 inches of snow in South Jersey and little, if any, snow in the northern half of the state, if current forecast trends continue.

AccuWeather forecasters are calling for similar snow accumulations during the storm: a total of 1 to 3 inches of snow in North Jersey and Central Jersey, and 3 to 6 inches of snow in South Jersey.

Once this storm system clears up on Friday afternoon, all eyes will be on a possible coastal storm over the weekend.

“The timing and trajectory are very uncertain at the moment,” Iovino said. The weather service is therefore not yet sure how much snow New Jersey will get this weekend.

Due to a major snowstorm the week before Christmas and the monster winter storm that fell over a large part of our region, parts of Northern and Central New Jersey received more snow than they normally get during the entire snowfall. season – which technically lasts from October to April.

But so far no monthly records or seasonal records have been broken.
