NJ again: Snowy, wintry mix probably from the winter storm next week. Latest timing, track

While northwestern New Jersey may experience a rapid eruption of snow later Friday, weather forecasters are keeping a close eye on a winter storm that is expected to bring widespread snow, ice and a wintry mix from Monday to Tuesday.

Mostly snow is expected north of I-195 and a wintry mix in the southern half of the state, the National Weather Service said in its forecast discussion Friday morning.

Projected snowfall totals will only be available on Saturday afternoon, although the weather service noted snow lovers: “It does not appear to be a system that will deliver large quantities.”

Forecasters say the biggest concern is slippery conditions, especially in places where a winter mix falls.

There are also questions about the trace and timing of the storm with the main rainfall expected to fall between noon Monday and noon Tuesday.

Forecasters said areas north of the Interstate 78 lane could see snow showers / light rain or light rain Friday through tonight.

It is also possible that flags or light showers could reach the Interstate 95 corridor. In general, expect a sunny sky with a high Friday in the forties with winds blowing up to 30 km / h, which makes it feel quite cooler.

It will be a cold, dry weekend with only a peak in the low to mid 30s Saturday and Sunday and stiff winds that make it feel colder. Lowest overnight stays range from teens to low 20s. According to AccuWeather.com, wind cooling in the northern half of New Jersey will range between 10 and 20 degrees.

Despite some snowstorms and brief snowstorms on Wednesday, most of New Jersey had very little snow during the month of January – which is usually the second snow month of the year.

The Newark area measured only an inch of snow throughout the month, and only a trace of snow was reported in Atlantic City.

During a normal January, the Newark region has 5 inches of snow by the third week of January and 7.9 inches during the entire month. Atlantic City typically has 2.5 inches of snow by the third week of January and 4.5 inches during the full month.
