Nioh 2 receives backlash on steam due to performance issues

Nioh 2 gets some not-so-flattering reviews on Steam thanks to poor performance and a lack of mouse and keyboard support.

Nioh 2, the advance of Nioh, has just come out on the PS4 on PC after ten months. And it’s going really well compared to the original game, with an everyday number of 41,325 players from yesterday – more than three times that of the original Nioh’s PC port.

But after an initial series of star reviews, a few inch-down posts appeared in the comments section and dropped Nioh 2: Complete Edition to an overall “Mixed” on Steam.

The main complaint is by far the poor performance, with many dropping or low frameworks. “I initially assumed that everyone who said the frame drop was a big problem was just overreacting,” one reviewer wrote, “but they were right. The frames fall very often. Wait to see if the developers upload them before you buy. “

One reviewer found that there were ‘massive frame drops in key areas’, with the added problem that the game would slow down even when it gets around 30 frames per second. Others, however, report frame rates as low as 20fps, even at relatively strong hardware specifications.

“The worst PC port ever,” one Steam user said succinctly.

Many people also report that the mouse and keyboard are not supported, with inaccurate inputs and settings refusing to save. Worse, the tutorial / help screens only refer to control buttons and do not tell players the keyboard binding, forcing the player to remember which keys were bound to which control buttons.

In any other game, these issues may not have been that bad, but it’s the kiss of death for a Soulslike title. Timing is crucial to survival in Nioh 2, and anything that causes random slowdown is likely to outrag players more than the already intense problems.

Cow Tecmo will definitely patch up the game in the coming weeks, but those interested in a new Soulslike experience might want to wait for Nioh 2 to receive a few spots first.
