Maybe this is not a big surprise, as apparently Switch owners are likely to own another console, but by 2020, the Nintendo Switch sold Xbox and PlayStation in the UK a lot. As … very very.
It’s tempting to see it as a huge success for Nintendo, and it is, but it’s also a huge success for us – the people who play games. Consoles are moving more than ever away from the idea of ’competitive’ consoles, and away from the idea that video games are for kids and nerds, with accessible family games, fitness games and even games like Animal crossing: new horizons it apparently drove people to buy extra household switches. Of course, many Nintendo games are exclusive to Switch, and while Xbox and Sony have a fair share of the exclusives, they pale in comparison to Nintendo’s first-party Switch-only offerings, which is probably why many people seem to A switch over as well as another console.
With the addition of cheaper, only handheld Switch Lites for younger people and anyone not playing TV (and some predictions about adding a Switch Pro in 2021), the Nintendo Switch family is not as big as the Xbox or PlayStation, which makes its sales all the more impressive. Of course, we’ll probably have to wait a little longer to find out more about the Switch Pro … unless the fake leak of a Nintendo Direct this weekend turns out to be true. (It will not.)
