Piscatella revealed that Switch was the best seller in both units sold and the money earned in that month, culminating an incredible year for the Nintendo handheld, marking the second highest annual dollar sales in the US history.
US NPD HW – Nintendo Switch was the best selling hardware platform in units and dollars for both December and the 2020 year. The annual dollar sales of Switch hardware were the second highest for a platform in U.S. history. Only Nintendo Wii sales in 2008 were higher.

This is an achievement made more remarkable by the fact that there were relatively few major Switch releases during the year, other than the admittedly huge success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
PlayStation 5 was the second console for dollar sales, with PS4 in second place for units sold. PS5 made more money in the first of December than any previous PlayStation system during the same period in the US.
The NPD’s statistics say that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War became SU’s best-selling game of December and 2020 as a whole. In the second place? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Animal Crossing: New Horizons – which is in third place – however, does not contain any digital sales figures, which means that it can actually be placed higher. With a much busier year ahead for Nintendo, not to mention persistent rumors about an announced Switch Pro model, it will be very interesting to see if Switch can continue the momentum – especially if the PS5 and Xbox series platforms are starting to see more exclusive emerges.
