Nintendo responds strictly to demand for multiple home consoles

Switch over© Nintendo

We got some information this week about Nintendo’s recent financial results. After the nine-month figures for 2020 were published on Monday, the Q&A session between Nintendo President Shuntaro Furakawa and numerous investors was also launched.

This has sparked several interesting facts – namely when we can see Nintendo’s upcoming games – and one investor believes that with almost 80 million units sold so far, the Switch was able to bring the Nintendo Wii’s life sales to more than 101 million.

Asked what Nintendo will do to push Switch sales further, Furukawa begins Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ success in getting people interested, along with nostalgia for Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary.

To go further, he also extensively confirmed the demand for multiple consoles within one family:

Our research found that approximately 20% of the Nintendo Switch family resale between October and December 2020 in the main regions was due to the demand for multiple systems within the same family. We strive to continue to increase our sales volume by also responding strictly to this kind of demand for various systems.

Although stocks have improved recently, the consoles of the Switch were difficult to identify during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, a situation that led to some retailers raising prices. It is then pleasing to see that Nintendo is not only aware of the question, but that it will try ‘strictly’ to comply with it.
