Nintendo Life eShop Selects – March 2021 – Feature

EShop Selects

Last month we celebrated the fourth anniversary of the Switch on the market. It’s a nice little milestone, but even though it’s been in the hands of the consumer for so long, the console’s approach to eShop’s discoverability still has a long way to go.

These awards are aimed at celebrating the best of Nintendo’s digital store, giving a little love and attention to the games that can so easily be missed in the Switch’s ever-growing library.

So let’s start. Here are the best Switch eShop games of March 2021!

Honorable mentions:

While these titles did not make our top three this month, they are still worth checking out:

Tales from the Borderlands (Switch eShop)Tales from the Borderlands (Switch eShop)

Publisher: Take-two interactive / Developer: Take-two interactive

Issue Date: March 23, 2021 (USA) / March 24, 2021 (UK / EU)

Tales from the Borderlands is third place this month, a game we consider one of the best efforts of Telltale Games.

Switch owners these days have several choice-driven narrative adventures to choose from, but it’s right there with the very best. In our full review (the game received a strong 9/10 from us), we described it as a first-class entertainment, consistently excellent writing, non-stop twisted action and a cast of crazy characters who have a joy of time with by bringing. ‘

Do yourself a favor and look at the one if you are interested. This could very well be the best the Borderlands universe has ever been.

Narita Boy (link eShop)Narita Boy (link eShop)

Publisher: Span17 / Developer: Koba Studio

Issue Date: 30 March 2021 (USA)

Narita Boy is narrow for Tales of the Borderlands this month. Narita Boy is an amazing Metroidvania, published by Team17, and honors the culture of the 80’s, and, more importantly, get it right.

In our review, we praised the game’s beautiful handmade imagery, extraordinary combat mechanics, diverse enemy designs, and amazing music. It all comes together in a package that is definitely worth your while. If you’re looking for your next taste of Metroidvania action, here it is.

Everhood (link eShop)Everhood (link eShop)

Publisher: Foreign gnomes / Developer: Foreign gnomes

Issue Date: March 4, 2021 (USA) / 2021 (UK / EU)

Just to hit first place this month (the votes were the closest they’ve been in a while), is Everhood.

Everhood is a crazy mix of RPG, rhythm action, kart racing and a teasing hell shmup-style game, and if that leaves you at least a little intrigued, we do not know what it will do. We described Everhood as ‘one of the most memorable games we’ve played in recent years’, with its bonkers plot and characters yet instantly accessible for a good game.

This is the kind of game that is best suited for anyone looking for something else which, let’s be honest, is exactly what the indie scene is about. Try it – you will not regret it!

How we decide to choose our eShop top three: At the end of each month, Nintendo Life staff vote on their favorite titles from a list of games selected by the editors. To qualify for this list, these games must be released as a digital Nintendo Switch eShop title in the month in question, and must be reviewed on Nintendo Life; we select the qualifying games based on their rating points.

Staff are then asked to vote for three matches that they believe deserve to be at the very top of the list; first choice gets 3 points, second choice gets 2 points, and third choice gets 1 point. These votes are then added together to create a top three list, with the overall winner achieving this month’s top prize.
