Nintendo celebrates victory in court against excellent kart tour company

A judge has confirmed Nintendo’s court victory over a kart company that did tours in Mario Kart themes in the streets of Tokyo, Engadget Japan reported. Earlier this year, MariCar (now known as Street Kart) was ordered to pay Nintendo $ 50 million yen ($ 483,000) for violating its IP rights. The company appealed, but the Supreme Court of Japan dismissed it and retained Nintendo’s earlier victory.

Nintendo only sued Mari Mobility, or MariCar, in 2017. Other companies offered similar tours, but MariCar’s IP breach was particularly noticeable because drivers had them dressed as Mario Kart characters. Nintendo also felt that the security issues could tarnish the name, which was a good problem after several accidents.
