Nineteen second penalty: Brown beats Caps 4-2

The Washington Capitals remain heavy in the month of April, magnifying another loss that would have been humiliating had it not been for a little fun of 19 seconds.

The Bs scored 33 seconds into the game when Jeremy Lauzon’s shot caught Samsonov unknowingly. Anton Blidh scored after a bad defensive zone by Justin Schultz and an even worse refusal from the station. Brad Marchand made it even worse with a short goal in the second period.

For nineteen seconds, things look good. The Caps later got a big long power play within seconds, during which Ovechkin dropped a one-time person off a face and Oshie added another. But that was all the Caps could muster. The Bruins added a power goal in the third period.

Caps lost.

  • Before we enter the bowels of the game, here’s a zoom out. After being one of the best defensive teams in the league in February and March, he has been one of the weakest in the league so far in April. It continued into the first period of Thursday’s game.

  • Boston jumped early to a two-goal lead and extended Marchand’s shorty to three. It was a humiliating first half.
  • But with two penalties (one a double minor), the Caps looked good for 19 short seconds, thanks to Ovi’s 20th of the year and Oshie’s 12th.
  • Not to be a buzzkill, but here Peerless is a total buzzkill.

  • Jakub Vrana‘s statline was a bunch of zeros until he lost his first shot attempt nine minutes into the third period. He had two in the night. I think it’s safe to say that Peter Laviolette’s penalties and deletions did not work.

The Washington Capitals will not play a terrible game this month. The best they got in this one was ‘not good enough, if you think you’re one.’ Whatever changed at the end of March, it was a bad change. It needs to be changed back.

The Caps have another chance Friday night not to embarrass me. That game is against the Buffalo Sabers, so it will be a hollow sorry-win or just a bottomless pit of humiliation. Can not wait!
